WHAT KINDS OF CASES CAN YOU SEE USING TELEMEDICINE?
Not all medical conditions are appropriate for telemedicine, but data from a number of sources indicate that 80-90% of presenting problems are solved with one visit. It is important to recognize that the quality of care depends upon the same judgment that physicians use with in-person visits, and not upon the means by which that care is delivered. If a diagnosis cannot be confidently made with the information at hand, the patient is referred for a higher level of service, i.e. an in-person visit with a local health care provider.
HOW DOES BEWELL PROTECT PATIENT PRIVACY?
Patient privacy is a priority. As with in-person health care, we adhere to all federal and state regulations, and all of our systems are HIPAA-compliant.
ISN'T LIABILITY AN ISSUE?
Administrators are wise to inquire about liability. Thankfully, the telemedicine industry experience to date has been extremely positive in this respect, with claims rates in many cases that are lower than for in-person visits. This is often attributed to high patient satisfaction rates, and is further evidenced by the fact that professional liability insurers do not charge higher premium rates to telemedicine practitioners.
